< 42nd Annual Basque Picnic

The 42nd Annual Basque Picnic will take place on Sunday, June 2, 2002 at the Petaluma Fairgrounds.  For more information, please see the enclosed flyer.  We hope to see a good turn out and enjoy a day celebrating our rich culture!

 

< Organizational Meeting

Those interested in volunteering during the picnic should attend the general meeting on Wednesday, May 8, 2001 which will be held at the Basque Cultural Center at 7:00 p.m. With your help this year will be as successful as years past.

 

< Mus Tournament Winners

The annual Mus Tournament was held in February.  First place went to Noel Erdozaincy and Raymond Lahargou, second place to Jean Pierre Ansola and Javier Alzugaray.  These teams will be representing our club in May at the NABO Tournament in Bakersfield, CA.

 

< New Website

Our Club website has been updated.  Please check out the new site at www.basqueclub.com

 

<  N.A.B.O. Convention

The N.A.B.O. Convention will take place in South San Francisco August 23, 24, 25.  The Friday night Opening Ceremony will take place at the So. San Francisco Convention Center, and will feature performers from both Euskadi and the United States.  Saturday and Sunday’s events will take place at Orange Park, near the Basque Cultural Center.  There will be a dance with music by Ketxo Saturday night at the BCC, and Basque Mass with the Bishop of Bayonne on Sunday in Orange Park.  For up to the minute information, please see the website www.nabo2002.com 

 

 

<  Ikasi 2002

NABO is sponsoring a new program – Ikasi.  It is a 3-day workshop for adults interested in learning more about Basque Culture. 

 

Participants will look at topics including language, prehistory and mythology, music and instruments, films, modern Bilbao, tracing genealogy, Basque contributions to world history, and bertolaris.  They will also learn how to cook and play mus.  It will finish by a performance by Udaleku alumni.

 

This year’s program will take place June 26th – 28th in Reno NV, and is being hosted by the Center for Basque Studies at UNR.  The program is free for participants this year, but is limited to 40 people.   Applications can be found on the NABO website www.basqueclubs.com 

 The deadline is June 1st.

 

< Udaleku 2002

This year’s NABO Udaleku (Basque Music Camp) will take place in Reno, NV from June 16th until June 28th.  During their time there, participants will learn about Basque culture and form friendships that will stay with them for years to come.  Applications can be found at the N.A.B.O. website www.basqueclubs.com  , or those interested can call Valerie Arrechea at 650/871-7347.  The application deadline is May 15, 2002.
